Rick Perry to Drop Out of Race
19 January, 2012
At 11:00 Eastern Time today, Rick Perry is set to announce that he is dropping out of the race for the Republican nomination for President.
With Perry's campaign suspended, along with John Hunstman previously, we are now left with four candidates still in the running: Front runner Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, and Rick Santorum.
New Hampshire Primary Results
11 January, 2012
Taking in 39% of the votes, Mitt Romney finished in first place in the New Hampshire Primary. This was no surprise, as Gov. Romney was expected to win this primary. Finishing second place was Rep. Ron Paul, with 23%, and rounding out the top three was Gov. John Huntsman with 27%. In a tie for fourth place, both Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum ended the New Hampshire Primary with 10% of the vote. Finishing last was Gov. Rick Perry, who elected to skip campaigning in New Hampshire altogether, and focus on future primaries.
Michelle Bachmann Out - Rick Perry Still In (For Now)
05 January, 2012
Michelle Bachmann heard the Iowa Caucus voters on January 3rd, and in respond, decided to "stand aside". She has suspended her campaign. Rep. Bachmann came in sixth place, earning just 5% of the votes during Tuesday's caucus. She acknowledged with such a low number of votes, she did not have the momentum needed to raise enough money to continue running the kind of campaign she wanted to run.
And while it was rumored that Gov. Rick Perry, who announced he would return to Texas to re-evaluate his options, would also suspend his campaign, it seems as though he is remaining in this race. He tweeted on Wednesday that "the next leg of the marathon is the Palmetto State. ... Here we come South Carolina!!!", which suggests that he has no intentions of dropping out of the race.
